Elaine Ellen Martinez (maiden name Nicas), 91, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on April 25th, 2025, at her home at Park Ave Assisted Living. .
Born Elaine Ellen Nikolaou from Flomochori, Greece, on January 9th, 1934. Her parents, William Nikolaou (father), Alexandra Boutselis (mother), immigrated to the U.S., at which time the family name was shortened to Nicas. She has three siblings, Peter (brother), Sousánna “Sue” (sister), and Nick (brother). She grew up in Perth Amboy, New Jersey where she went to high school and later went to secretarial school. Elaine spoke five languages and was even invited by the State Department to become an interpreter, an opportunity she declined based on her parents’ wishes. She went on to build a family, her joy coming from her marriage to Roberto Martinez, her 10 children, and many grandchildren. Elaine loved to cook, to entertain guests who came to visit and spend time with her family. She lived in Amarillo, TX with her husband Roberto for over 30 years. She was a member of Saint John Greek Orthodox Church in Amarillo, TX actively involved in the church, until she moved to Albuquerque in 2015 to be close to family. She was a member of Saint George Greek Church of Albuquerque and attended while she was physically able.
Elaine was predeceased in death by her husband, Roberto, her brother, Peter, sister, Sue, her children: Mark, Susie, Ricardo “Ricky”, and grandchild, Jennifer. She is survived by her children: Dalain Jones (Henry) of Columbia, SC, Brenda Fodness (Gary) of Kenneth, MN, Louie Hoffman of Sunland, CA, Angela Thomas (Jack) of Warner Robins, GA, Phillip Martinez (Wendy) of Ocean, NJ, Denise Algire (William) of Albuquerque, NM, Robert Martinez (Cyndi) of Arlington, TX; 19 grandchildren: Adrienne, Micaela, Justin, Tiffany, Joshua, Casey, Dianna, Mathew, Theresa, Kimberly, Jessica, Rachelle, Megan, Jaymes, Carver, Sabina, Keneal, Kenji, and Xavier; 36 great grandchildren: Korea, China, Christopher Jr., Blessin, Donald, Fatimah, Aaliyah, Tiana, Naiyah, Caleb, Neryiah, Mikala, Alexa, Dalton, Morgan, Jewelianna, Brekan, Decker, Nori, Hayden, Kaylee, Kaleb, Milo, Ellie, Clint, Andre, Emil, Rosie, Muriel, Calliope, Vivian, Mia, Max, Millie, Maxwell, and Xaiden; and 4 great great grandchildren: Andrea, Harper, Greyson, and Brody.
Elaine will be remembered for her devotion to the Greek Orthodox faith, her kindness, love for her family, her love for the arts (music, theater, singing and poetry). Her laughter, dancing and sense of humor were gifts to everyone who knew her. Above all, Elaine was devoted to her Lord and Savior, who is the center of her life.
