Elaine B. Powelstock, 96, of St. Paul's Colony, Greenville, previously of Oradell, N.J., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
Elaine is the daughter of the late Michael Antonoff and Anna (Wolk) Antonoff. She was born in New York City on November 2, 1928. She married Leo J. Powelstock on June 14, 1952, at the Russian Orthodox Cathedral in New York City. He predeceased her in November 2019.
Elaine graduated from Bethany College in 1951. After graduation she resided in New York City where she worked in publishing. In 1964, she and Leo moved to Oradell, New Jersey with their family. Elaine was a stay-at-home mom until the last of her children graduated high school and then continued her career at the Oradell Public Library.
Elaine was a long-time member of the Oradell Reformed Church where she served on a number of committees. She was actively involved in many of her children's activities. Elaine had a lifelong love of books and was a passionate supporter of the arts. She credited her remarkable memory to the countless hours she spent reading throughout her life. Always mindful of her impact on the planet, she took great care to always donate and recycle. Her quiet dedication to sustainability and generosity reflected her lifelong desire to leave the world a better place.
Elaine is survived by her children, Suzanne Blair (Jeff) of Greenville, David Powelstock (Judith Arneson) of Cambridge, MA, and Lisa Shafran (Joseph) of Columbus, IN. She is also survived by her grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she adored.
Her family was grateful for all their wonderful years with Elaine, especially the last few where she was able to enjoy the company, the laughter, and the familiar faces of all who loved her. The book of her life was long and beautiful; the end will never erase her story. She will be dearly missed by her family and all those who had the pleasure of knowing her during her long and full life.
