Lucille W. Batson, affectionately known as “Granny” by her family, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 5, 2025, surrounded by family at McPherson Hospital at the age of 94. A dedicated professional, Lucille served as an accounting supervisor at McPherson Bank & Trust for many years. Even after her retirement, her strong work ethic and love for community led her to continue working at Peoples Bank.
She was born on October 4, 1931, in Lawrence, KS, the daughter of Fred C. and Cora Belle (Hoover) Flory. Lucille graduated from Lawrence High School in 1949 and continued her education at McPherson College and Bethany College. On July 5, 1952, she was united in marriage to James B. “Jim” Batson in McPherson, KS. They were married for 68 years prior to his passing on April 12, 2021.
Lucille was a member of McPherson Church of the Brethren and the Futurama Study Club. She found joy in golfing and having sleepovers with her grandchildren. She delighted in watching birds and her favorite flowers were Zinnias and Lily of the Valley.
She is survived by three children, Cindy (Cameron) Kaufman of Buhler, KS, Janet (Mike) Barthman of Abilene, KS, and Bruce Batson of McPherson, KS; ten grandchildren, Chris (Mandy) Cheesman, Joseph (Blanca)Kaufman, Katie (Joe) Heller, Ian (Bridgette) Tinsley, Brook Batson, Nick Batson, Stefanie (Dave) Osborne, Jeremy (Ashley) Batson, Eric Batson, and Kelly Batson; and 15 great-grandchildren. Lucille was an honorary mother and grandmother to Penny (Harold) Selzer, Erica Selzer, Patrick (Katie) Selzer, Connie, and Hoover.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Wayne (Susan) Batson; and siblings, Virgil Flory, Lois Hanna, Irene Williams, Belle Nelson, Mary Tate, Francis Flory, and Benjamin Flory.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Monday, October 13, 2025, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. The final resting place will be at Washington Creek Cemetery in Lawrence, KS.
Memorial donations may be given to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or McPherson Church of the Brethren in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.
