Elaine Schade Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 1, 2025.
Elaine Marie Schade passed away peacefully in the loving home of her granddaughter on August 23, 2025. She was surrounded by loved ones as God called her home to be with her late husband and children.
Elaine was born on October 27. 1938 Wausau, WI, daughter of the late William and Dorothy Hoff.
With one older brother, Elaine was the eldest daughter of eleven siblings. She was kept busy at an early age, coming home straight from school to help her mother in the kitchen and with the wash. She never complained, though; rather, she cherished this time with her mother.
Elaine (Hoff) married Harold Schade on November 24, 1956. Together, Harold and Elaine, expanded and ran a successful concrete business and built a beautiful home in the Town of Hamburg, where they raised 6 children. Elaine had a lot of heartache when God decided to call three of their children home before her time. They happily retired, turning their cabin into their retirement home when their son Greg took over the family business.
Elaine worked both in and outside the home. She always said, "A man works from sunup to sundown, but a woman's work is never done." Elaine did the bookkeeping for the family's concrete business. She had numerous amounts of people to whom she was a guardian over including John and Carol, who lived in her home. She ran summer Sunday school programs for the small church after she retired. Elaine loved her job at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, where she retired after 22 years of service.
Elaine enjoyed sewing dresses and costumes for her grandchildren. She made large quilts and had a knack for embroidery. In her later years she enjoyed playing solitaire on her computer for hours. She enjoyed having beautiful flowers and loved hummingbirds. But her favorite memories are those of her grandchildren who would get together for a week every summer. She cherished her grandchildren and time spent with them.
She is survived by her children: Tina Baxter, James Schade, and Cheryl (Randy) Haroldson, her siblings: James (Judy) Hoff, Sheldon (Bonnie) Hoff, Robert Hoff, Lois (Robert) Giese, Peter (Jean) Hoff, Naomi (Jules) Neuenfeldt, Karen Voigt, Meldin (Kay) Hoff, grandchildren Brittney, Dustin, Heather, Kristen, Jenny, Lauren, Lisa, Luke, Kyle, Dawn, Adam, Andrew, Hannah, Hope, Jeremiah and Josiah and 13 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Harold, daughters Paulette and Cindy, son Greg, grandchildren Kelsey and Doug, Great-grandson Cale, brother and sister in law, Donald, (Joyce) Hoff, sister in law Lou Ann Hoff, brother and sister in law Dennis (Pearl) Voigt and brother in law Sheldon Voigt.
Services will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025, at St. Peter ELCA at 135237 County Road A, Marathon. Visitation will start at 10:00 a.m. until the time of Service at 12:00 pm with a luncheon to follow.
Family would like to say a special Thank you to Aspirus Hospice for the loving care they gave to Elaine.
A private family burial will take place at Zion Lutheran.
