Elaine Rhyne Sparks

Elaine Levine Rhyne “Sparky” Sparks, 95, of 2755 Union Road, died Friday, March 25, 2011, at Gaston Memorial Hospital. A Service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Monday, March 28, 2011, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. Braxton East will officiate. Interment will follow at Hollywood Cemetery in Gastonia. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm Monday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Mrs. Sparks was born February 3, 1916 in Gastonia, NC. She was a daughter of the late Grant Rhyne and Mary Jane Rhyne Rhyne. She was an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and a former member of Grace Lutheran Church in Boone, NC. “Sparky”, as folks called her, was a member of Gaston Home Demonstration club for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Berel Sparks, brothers, Garry and Austin Rhyne, sisters, Lula Corn, Margaret Fisher, Annie Glover, Mame McArver, Madge Rhyne, Virginia Rogers and Claudia Stubbs. Mrs. Sparks is survived by daughter, Jane Alexander and husband Jerry of Gastonia, son, Ray Sparks and wife Nancy of Gastonia, grandchildren, Grant Sparks, Dorothy Elaine Alexander, Eric Sparks and John Bryant Alexander; great grandchildren, Trey Holt, Dalton Holt, Natalie Sparks and Michael Sparks; step grand children, Tina and David Alexander; step great grandchildren, Jessica Norris, Jerry Alexander, II, Maria Alexander, Kiesha Alexander; step great grandchildren, Makala Miller and Cameron Norris; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 805 South York Street, Gastonia, NC, 28052 and/or Grace Lutheran Church, 115 East King Street, Boone, NC 28607.
