ELBA G. MONTOYA

Elba Garcia Montoya, 85, was called to be with Our Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, November 1st, 2025, at University Medical Center, El Paso, TX. She is survived by her loving husband of over 64 years, Fernando A. Montoya. Mrs. Montoya also leaves behind seven children: Fernando Montoya, Jr. (JoAnn), Belinda Anne Ortega (Oscar), Elizabeth Elba Milian (Jose), Alejandro Abel Montoya, Sr., Lawrence Jude Montoya, Roger Andrew Montoya, and Paul Eugene Montoya. The dearly beloved mom was also the proud grandmother of several grandchildren: Janell (Mike), Joseph Gabriel, Andrea Marie, Jillian Celeste (Harvey), Oscar Jacob, Allorah Grace, Noelle Angelique (Wesley), Meaghan Elizabeth (Ashleigh), Sarah Ann (Stephanie ), Lynette Michele (John), Alexis Alina (Robert), Alejandro Abel, Jr., Adam Andrew (Ashley Noelle), Isabella Nereida, and Raquel America. Mrs. Montoya was blessed with great-grandchildren as well: Izac Xavier, Ruben Jay, Joshua Miguel, Isabella Faith, Giselle Belen, Ruth Ann, Judith Marie, Jeremiah Adam, and Alejandro Armando. She was preceded in death by her mother Maria del Refugio Garcia de Garcia, father Pedro O. Garcia, brother Horacio Garcia, and sisters Zulema Sanchez (Pedro ) and Diomira "Lily" Flores (Frank ). Mrs. Montoya was a lifelong El Pasoan, having been born in this fair city on November 19, 1939. She was a proud graduate of Loretto Academy, Class of 1958, and she earned some credit hours at El Paso Community College, where she made the Dean's List. Mrs. Montoya lent her talents to some of El Paso's honored institutions. She was briefly a teacher at Sacred Heart School. She was also employed at the Child Crisis Center of El Paso during its early years and rose to the position of Assistant Director. Mrs. Montoya was a person of profoundly deep faith and worshiped at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for 54 years. She had a special devotion to Mary, Mother of God and prayed the Rosary on a daily basis. The dear lady was a firm believer in Catholic faith-based education, and, through many sacrifices, sponsored her children's educational pursuits at Blessed Sacrament School, Cathedral High School, Loretto Academy, and the University of Notre Dame. Some of her children also graduated from Irvin High School. Elba Montoya leaves behind a legacy of excellence. Her children grew up to achieve university degrees and professional licenses. Mrs. Montoya was a generous soul who often invited soldiers and university students who were away from home to join her family at holiday feasts. She also provided the same warmth of family to children from the Child Crisis Center. And Mrs. Montoya provided meals and clothes to indigent itinerant migrants who would knock on the door of her family's home. Elba Montoya enjoyed reading books and having tea parties with her children and grandchildren. Her favorite cinematic works were in the Western/Cowboy action genre. She loved attending the ballet, especially "The Nutcracker," and the opera.
