Eldon Wells Cornette, Jr., age 81, passed away on October 12, 2025, at his home in Opelousas surrounded by his family leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication to his family, friends, and passions.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held for Eldon on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas. A Eulogy will be given by Bob Trahan and Wells Cornette beginning at 12:00 p.m. A Rosary will be recited by Becky Diesi at 12:15 p.m.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m.
He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 57 years, Linda Diesi Cornette, residing in Opelousas, Louisiana. Together, they shared a journey filled with cherished moments that will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew them. Eldon was the proud father of two sons, Eldon Wells Cornette, III and his wife, Katy of Haughton, Louisiana; and Spencer Cornette of Opelousas, Louisiana. He also took immense joy in being a grandfather to Carter M. Cornette, Averi M. Cornette, Mike Cornette, Matt Cornette, and Maxx Cornette. Additionally, he is survived by his sister, Ann R. Cornette of Russellville, Kentucky, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family who will treasure his memory.
A dedicated professional, Eldon made significant contributions during his career, working for Blount Brothers Construction Company in Alabama before continuing his journey at Diesi Motors in Opelousas between 1970 and his retirement in 2006. His work ethic, combined with his skills as a jack of all trades, made him an invaluable asset in every endeavor he undertook.
Eldon enjoyed many hobbies and interests that enriched his life. He had a passion for the outdoors, enjoying hunting and fishing. In addition to these pursuits, Eldon was particularly enthusiastic about restoring Hot Rod cars and acquiring Corvettes, hobbies that allowed him to express his creative talents and love for automobiles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eldon Wells Cornette, Sr. and Lockie Sue Tucker Cornette; and his grandson, Peyton J. Cornette.
As we reflect on his life, we honor Eldon’s spirit, his dedication to family, his warmth, and his unwavering commitment to those he loved. His presence will be dearly missed, but his memory will continue to inspire and bring joy to all who knew him.
