Eldon Fongemie Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 13, 2025.
Eldon H. Fongemie, 78, of Sicklerville, NJ died unexpectedly on March 10, 2025. Son of Ernest and Laurette (Soucy) Fongemie. He grew up on the family farm in St. Agatha, ME where he gained his strong work ethic. Moving briefly to Denver, CO and then to the New Britain, CT area where he raised his 3 children with his first wife Rita (Poissonnier) Taylor. Eldon was a proud member of the Connecticut Laborers Union for 19 years, working for Tilcon Tomasso, among other companies. He decided to take a leap into self-employment with a good friend and business partner Mark Abraham. Together, they enjoyed 23 successful years of business in the New Britain-Kensington, CT area as painting contractors under the name of Abraham & Fongemie Painting & Decorating. In 1989, Eldon met the love of his life, Janice (Howard) Fongemie, moving to Colchester, CT where he helped raise her 2 young children and supported her education and career aspirations. In 2007 Eldon & Janice relocated to Southern New Jersey. Eldon contemplated retiring before starting the "Quality Painting & Wallcovering Etc..." business. He kept as busy as he wanted to be, but not so busy that he could not travel. He was happiest when he had a flight booked and a destination to look forward to. Eldon leaves behind his wife of 30 years Janice, his daughter Gail and her husband Timothy Burgess of Shapleigh, ME, his daughter Lisa Smith of Augusta, ME, his son Dean Fongemie and his wife Christina (Maxwell) of Waterbury, CT, a stepson Dennis St. Pierre of Meriden, CT and his fiancé Kelly Little, and a stepson David St Pierre and his wife Michelle (Lapan) of Greenville OH. Loving grandfather of Erica and her husband Peter Eckstein, Jennifer Burgess and her wife Mckenzie Burke, Ashlee and Haley Smith, Jessica Fongemie and her partner Audrey Greenan, Katie and Benjamin Shelton, Dagon and Lilith St. Pierre, Luna and Zara Little. His greatest joys in life, great granddaughters Ava and Kamdyn Cahill. He was the much-loved brother of Linda Fongemie of Edmundston, NB, Canada and Gilmay Lemieux of Meriden, CT. He is predeceased by his brother Armand Fongemie, Rina Gendreau, Roland Fongemie, Laurence Fongemie, Cecile Fongemie, Ernest Fongemie, Gilman Fongemie, and Marie Rita Fongemie. Eldon also leaves behind his many brothers and sisters-in-law and his much-loved nieces and nephews. A celebration of life with his extensive family will be held at a later date in Connecticut, where his heart was at home.

Eldon was the most soft spoken, kind, lighthearted and humble man that I have ever met. Janice you were loved by him as we all could see the love he held in his heart beaming through his eyes when he looked at you and spoke about you. He loved life and cherished his family. You were a wonderful wife to him indulging in all of his adventures and taking wonderful care of him throughout the years. Love to you and to the entire family.
