Eldon Ford Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Garnand Funeral Homes - Garden City on Feb. 2, 2026.
Eldon Leon Ford passed away on January 28th, 2026, surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, service, and deep devotion to family and community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Charlene Ford, and his beloved grandson, Kenyan Nonhof.

Eldon is survived by his wife of 47-years and high school sweetheart, Becky Ford; his "favorite only daughter", Heather Nonhof; his "favorite only son-in-law", Matthew Nonhof, his cherished granddaughters, Kaylin Nonhof and Eden Nonhof, who brought him endless pride and joy, and his loving sister, Deb Jantz aka "Aunt Barb".

A graduate of Garden City High School, Class of 1975, Eldon remained deeply connected to his hometown throughout his life. He was an active member of First Christian Church, a proud member of KU Alumni Association, and an avid supporter of Kansas University basketball and football- cheering on the Jayhawks was one of his favorite pastimes.

Eldon devoted many years to civic service as a member of the Garden City Jaycees, where he also served as past president, reflecting his strong belief in giving back and building community.

Above all else, Eldon loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, and friends. His favorite holiday was the Fourth of July, a celebration that perfectly matched his loved for togetherness, tradition, and pyrotechnics.

Known as a friend to all, Eldon truly never met a stranger- his warmth, generosity, and easy conversation made everyone feel welcome.

Eldon will be remembered for his kind heart, his unwavering love for those closest to him, and the many lives he touched simply by being himself.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the First Christian Church in Garden City with Rev. Scott Schurle and Rev. Don Warren officiating. Anyone attending the service is encouraged to wear their favorite Kansas Jayhawk attire. A private family interment will take place at a later date. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Catherine Hospice or Friends of Lee Richardson Zoo, both in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 412 N. 7th St., Garden City, Kansas 67846.
