Eldon Wiens

Eldon Wiens, 82 of Dolton, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. Funeral Service will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at the Bethesda Church, rural Marion, with a visitation beginning at 1:00 PM. Arrangements provided by Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home.
Eldon John Wiens was born on September 2, 1942 at the farm place near Marion, SD to John and Leona (Ratslaff) Wiens. He was the 4th of 5 children, joining sisters Thelma, Verna, and Jo, then followed by Carol. Eldon graduated from Marion High School in 1961.
Eldon worked as a medic for the Veteran's Hospital in Indiana before returning to the Marion area to farm. He also worked at AMPI in Freeman while taking care of his work horses that he used to farm with. He loved to tinker with old machinery such as steam engine tractors., Eldon enjoyed going to local thrashing bees. Though he did not have any children of his own, he enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews. There was always something new to learn on the farm.
Eldon will be missed. He is survived by his sisters Verna Temple of Sioux Falls, Jo Jennings of Humboldt, and Carol (Glenn) Purvis of Winona, Texas; along with his nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces and nephews, and friends. Eldon was preceded in death by his parents John and Leona Wiens, and sister Thelma Kattke.
