Eleanor Murial Doud, 88, of Sedalia, MO, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at Primrose Retirement Community of Sedalia. She was born January 23, 1937, in New Bedford, MA, the daughter of Frederick and Anna (Singleton) Philipp, who preceded her in death.
On June 23, 1956, in New Bedford, she was united in marriage to Dale Keith Doud, who preceded her in death on December 8, 2018.
Eleanor was the heart and matriarch of her family. She poured herself into caring for those she loved, giving generously and without hesitation. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and her joy in life came from being surrounded by family. She especially treasured watching her great-grandchildren grow.
An avid reader, Eleanor passed along her love for books to both a granddaughter and great-granddaughter. She was also an animal lover, sharing her home over the years with many horses, cats, and dogs. Some of her happiest moments were spent at the family farm with her granddaughters, Jessica and Deniz. Together they fished, took long walks, played board and card games, completed puzzles, and enjoyed ice cream in their favorite yellow, apple-shaped bowls.
When she became a great-grandmother in 2013 to Deniz's triplets, Eleanor's joy multiplied. She looked forward to her weekly visits filled with cuddles and laughter. In November 2021, she moved to Primrose Retirement Community, where she quickly became known for her kindness, warmth, and ability to make lasting friendships. She was deeply loved by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Eleanor is survived by her children, William "Bill" Doud of Sedalia, Donna Evans of Versailles, and Timothy Doud of Washington, DC; a son-in-law, Edward "Ed" Doud; her granddaughters and their husbands, Jessica and Clifford Hazel of Versailles, Deniz and Ricky Woods of Huntsville, and Melissa and Ahmet Soybelli of Long Island, NY; and five great-grandchildren, William, Levi, Sophia, and Olivia Woods, and Neva Soybelli.
In addition to her husband and parents, Eleanor was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances and Dorothy; and five brothers, Norman, Kenneth, Harold, Gerald, and Frederick.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Rea Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Aaron Roberts officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sedalia.
Pallbearers will be Clifford Hazel, William Woods, Levi Woods, Richard Hazel, Dual Kumberg and Cody Whittle.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the National Indian Child Welfare Association, in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
