Eleanor R. Harriger
Epsom, NH - Eleanor Rebecca Harriger, 88, of Epsom, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 11, 2025, at the Granite VNA Hospice House in Concord following a period of declining health.
She was born on December 15, 1936, in Cuba, NY; daughter of the late Eleanor R. (Shields) and Lester J. Harriger Sr.
Eleanor was raised and educated in New York. She went on to obtain her bachelor's degree from the State University of New York at Cortland, her master's degree from Ithaca College, where she was also a professor, and her public administration master's degree from Plymouth State University. She worked as a physical education teacher in the Hollis School District before becoming a principal there. Eleanor then went on to work for many years as the principal at Pembroke Hill School. She then became the principal in the Jaffrey-Rindge School District where she retired from in 1996. Her love for teaching extended beyond her retirement, having become an adjunct professor at Notre Dame College in Manchester where she taught future educators the art of teaching. Eleanor was a member of the NH Retired Educators Association. She was an avid stamp and coin collector, was a devoted Pinocchio enthusiast, she enjoyed gardening, woodworking and building, but most important of these was being an ice cream connoisseur. Eleanor loved trips to the beach and Maine, being outdoors, and truly cherished time spent with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Eleanor was predeceased by her siblings, Betty Shannon, Beverly Allen, Leola Moyer, Lois Bellamy, James Harriger and Lester Harriger, Jr.
She is survived by her wife, Odie Champagne; daughter, Jodie Champagne; five grandchildren, Lex Duval, Bryce Ham, Chase Duval-Champagne, Sophie Duval and Chloe Duval; and many nieces, nephews and other loved family members.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at 10:30 A.M. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 180 Loudon Road, Concord, NH 03301. Burial will follow at 12:00PM at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen. The Roan Family Funeral Home in Pembroke is assisting the family with arrangements.
