Eleanor Luther
May 4, 1934 – July 9, 2025
She passed away peacefully on Wednesday July 9, 2025 at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center surrounded by her loving daughters and grandchildren. She was a longtime resident of Norwood, PA and was a member of both the VFW and American Legion Post 507 in Norwood. Eleanor was born and raised in Southwest Philadelphia, daughter of Clarence J. and Mary W. (Stewart) Dunhour. She moved to Norwood in the early 70's with her late husband, Albert to raise their children.
Eleanor worked at West Chemical until the early 70's. She was a stay-at-home mom until her children were older. She loved being a homeroom mother for her children. She then decided to babysit to be with her children after school. Later, she worked at Collingdale Thrift and then at the Swarthmore Goodwill before retiring to spend more time with her husband.
Eleanor was a long-time member of Norwood United Methodist Church. Prior to that, she was a long-time member of Westminster Church on 58th & Kingsessing Ave. For many years she helped with the Vacation Bible School in the summer months.
Eleanor was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan who enjoyed watching and attending games with her husband, daughters, grandchildren and Billy. She loved going to Wildwood, NJ and Arizona to visit with family. She enjoyed sitting on the swing with her husband, talking to her neighbors and dressing up for the holiday just to make others smile.
Eleanor also enjoyed spending time at Rose Tree Park with family and dancing with her grandson, Matthew. She loved doing the "Mummer Strut" on the 4th of July, playing bingo, travelling with her best friend and going to church functions.
Eleanor was the Beloved Wife of 62 years to the late Albert Luther; Loving mother to 4 children, Alice (late Edward) Sabre, the late Carol Lauria, Violet Luther and Martin (Roberta) Luther, Sr.; Beloved grandmom to Jennifer Varner, Harrison Varner, Jr., Martin Luther, Jr., Allisa (John) Montella, Zachary, Faith, Marcus, Hollie, Matthew, Emily, Anna and Julia Sabre; Loving great grandmom to Mason and Aneillo. Also, a loving Fur-Grandmom.
In addition to her parents, husband and daughter, Eleanor was preceded in death by sisters and brother, Lillian (James) Finno, Roy (Mary) Dunhour and Florence (Truman) Huff.
Dear Aunt to Elaine Finno and Darlene Zaeh.
