On December 15, 2022, Mrs. Eleanor Scott Youngblood of Union, was called by the Lord Jesus to that heavenly Jerusalem where she is now surrounded by an innumerable company of angels and has found her home among the spirits of just men made perfect. Him whom we long to see, she now beholds face to face.
Born in Spartanburg County on November 5, 1932, to Stuart Nicholas and Virginia Morrow Miller, she was named Eleanor Virginia. She was raised in Pauline alongside her three brothers and three sisters, with whom she remained close throughout their lives. Miss Miller graduated from Pauline High School and soon married Mr. Curtis Samuel Scott, Sr. After their wedding in June 1949, she moved with him to Buffalo, South Carolina, where they were blessed with three children-Richard Wayne (Rick), Curtis Samuel, Jr. (Sammy), and Pamela Glyn Pam).
Mrs. Scott was sorrowed to lose her husband in 1985. She continued to live in the family home and was active in the lives of her children and grandchildren-hosting scores of Sunday dinners and Christmas parties. She lived modestly but was extraordinarily generous in hospitality and gift giving. She continued to work at State Farm Insurance until her retirement. The local office was an important source of Beeches chewing gum which she would pass to her grandson in the pew every Sunday at Putman Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member. Her church gave her great opportunity to use her gifts of service and hospitality. Through her work on the church's fellowship committee, she became close with widower Mr. Harold Dean Youngblood, an old family friend. The two were wed in 1999 making her Mrs. Eleanor Scott Youngblood. Their marriage gave them great joy in their later years and brought together two families who would go on to share those Sunday dinners and Christmas parties. Mr. Youngblood passed before her in 2017.
On this side of heaven, they leave behind her son, Richard Scott (Glynnette) of Buffalo, her daughter Pamela Gilliam of Lexington, his son Terry Youngblood (Diane) of Jonesville, and his daughter Deanna Arnold (Dan) of Union. She was predeceased by her son Sammy in 2010. Mrs. Youngblood has two surviving grandchildren Heather McCaskill (Scott) of Lexington and Derek Scott (Tonya) of Greer as well as eight great-grandchildren Lauren and Savannah McCaskill and Cole, Caleb, Christian, Calvin, Cooper, and Ellie Scott.
She also counted as her own Mr. Youngblood's grandchildren Kevin Youngblood (Cindy), Ashley West (Cory), and Justin Arnold (Taylor). She is survived by sisters Patricia M. Compos of Pauline and Jane M. Waters of New Bern, NC. Passing before her were brothers Lewis E. Miller, Sr. of Spartanburg, William L. Miller of Cedaredge, Colorado, George N. Miller of Abbeville, and sister Elizabeth M. Gossett of Cross Anchor.
Mrs. Youngblood's body will be laid to rest on Monday, December 19, 2022, in the sure and blessed hope of the Resurrection. Her long and beautiful life will be celebrated by her family and friends in a graveside service at Putman Baptist Church at two o'clock in the afternoon with visitation to follow. Her former pastor and longtime friend Rev. Donald Tillman will officiate. The following are invited to serve as pallbearers: Cole Scott, Caleb Scott, Christian Scott, Kevin Youngblood, Cory West, Justin Arnold, and Scott McCaskill.
The family is at the home of her son at 3584 Buffalo-West Springs Highway, Buffalo, South Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Putman Baptist Church, 3692 Buffalo West Springs Hwy, Buffalo, SC 29321.
