Eleanore (Wegrzyn) Darnell, a beloved grandmother, sister and friend, entered eternal life early Sunday morning, February 25, 2024. She was 100 years old.
Eleanore was born a century ago on January 26, 1924, in
Maybee, MI, to the late Peter and Anna (Siembab) Wegrzyn. She married Chester Dembinski on January 24, 1943, and sadly, Chester became a casualty of WWII in 1944. She then married another Chester, Chet (Damiecki) Darnell on July 10, 1946, and he preceded her in death in 2011.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Eleanore was preceded in death by her step-mother, Lillian Wegrzyn; children, Dan Darnell in 2021, and Gail Darnell in 2016; sisters, Clara Wegrzyn and Edwina "Terry" Martel; brothers, Edward Wegrzyn, Edmond Wegrzyn, Walter Wegrzyn, Aloysius Wegrzyn; her daughter-in-law, Beverly Darnell on February 21st, and her son-in-law, Thomas Norton in 2021.
Surviving Eleanore are one sister, Emily "Lee" Hamilton; grandchildren, Jason (Tara) Darnell, Christopher (Amy) Darnell, and Lyndsay (Kevin) Sullivan; great-grandchildren, Mathias and Solana Darnell, Olivia and Addison Darnell, Maevis and Nora Sullivan, and Griffin, Reese, and Emery Baldridge; special Goddaughter, Lendy Sevald; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Eleanore spent her long life enriching the lives of those around her with her wisdom, warmth, and unwavering determination. Alongside her beloved husband Chet, she was a driving force behind the success of Darnell Tax Service in Farmington Hills, a business they operated with precision and dedication. Their expertise extended beyond tax services, as they ventured into the realms of real estate and insurance. Her professional accomplishments were only a part of Eleanore's vibrant life. She embraced a multitude of passions with zest and creativity. Crafting was not just a hobby but a source of joy and self-expression for Eleanore. Her artistic flair and meticulous attention to detail were evident in every piece she created. Moreover, cooking and baking were not just tasks but expressions of love for family and friends. Her delectable creations brought people together and created lasting memories around the dining table.
Eleanore and Chet loved to travel and that led them to many corners of the globe. Traveling was not just a pastime but a lifelong adventure that enriched her perspective and broadened her horizons. She approached each journey with curiosity and an open heart. Her love for gardening brought her a sense of tranquility and connection to the earth. The vibrant blooms and lush foliage were a testament to her nurturing spirit.
Eleanore's legacy is not just one of business success but of a life well-lived, filled with passion, creativity, and an unwavering commitment to those she loved. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have crossed paths with this extraordinary woman.
Eleanore's funeral mass will be celebrated Friday morning, March 1, at 11:00 am (in state 10:30 am) at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 133 Orchard Drive, Northville.
Her interment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly on Friday afternoon at 1:30 pm.
