Elenore Marlys Kubitz, age 89, of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died on January 2, 2025, at Essentia Health in Fargo, North Dakota. She was known to all as Marlys and was born on February 3, 1935, in Erhard’s Grove Township of rural Pelican Rapids to Walter and Ruth (Johnson) Backstrom.
She spent her youth attending District 288 Country School, laboring on the family farm, and working with horses at Soo Pass Dude Ranch. Marlys married Donald Kubitz. They lived in Campbell, Minnesota for a short time before buying a farm next to her parents in Pelican Rapids, where she proudly resided until her death. Farming, animals, and gardening were her true passions. Marlys was a lifelong member of Central Lutheran Church.
Marlys is survived by her husband Donald, daughter Deanna (Jeff) Iwen of Glyndon, Minnesota, son Evan (Rena) Kubitz of Pelican Rapids, granddaughters Kayleigh Kubitz of Moorhead, Minnesota, Cassidy (Christopher Luistro) Kubitz of West Fargo, North Dakota, and Kirsten (Gene) Schleeter of West Fargo, North Dakota, her cats Mouse and Giselle, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings LuVerne (Bill) Mangin, Helen (Eugene) Solinger, Kenneth (Olive) Backstrom, Raymond Backstrom, and Howard Backstrom.
Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Central Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids with Pastor Brad Soenksen officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior.
Interment will be at Central Lutheran Cemetery, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.
