Eli Anthony Simmons, 19, of Mt. Vernon, Indiana, passed away on May 28, 2025, in Mt. Vernon after a courageous battle with Lymphoma and Pneumonia and its many complications.
Born on November 15, 2005, at the Women's Hospital, Eli was the beloved son of Amanda Osborne and Richard Steen. A proud 2024 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School, he had recently begun working at the Polyvantis plant in Mt. Vernon. Even while undergoing chemotherapy treatments, Eli's determination and strong work ethic inspired those around him as he continued to stay active and contribute.
Eli found joy in life's simple pleasures-riding motorcycles, cruising through the country in his truck, boating on the river, or gathering around a fire with family and friends. He cherished these moments most when shared with those closest to him. Known for his unique sense of style, Eli especially loved collecting and trading Nike shoes.
He is lovingly remembered by his mother, Amanda Osborne; step-father, Eric Simmons; father, Richard Steen; sister, Eliana Simmons; grandmother, Teresa Jarred (Doug Key); grandfather, Kevin Osborne; great-grandmother, Janet Gross; aunt, Jennifer (Jim) Tinsley; cousins Mahala Tinsley, Landon Neathammer, Denny Holtzclaw, and Deanna Holtzclaw; half-siblings Angel, Angelo, and Little Richard; along with many more aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends.
Eli was preceded in death by his aunt, Rachel Osborne "His Ray Ray"; Poppy, David Gross; uncle, Steve Osborne; and aunt, Carol Hargrove.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 2, 2025, at Denning Family Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Visitation will take place from 4:00 p.m. until service time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Chemo Buddies. Online condolences may be left at denningfamilyfuneralhome.com
