Amash, Elias J.
ALBANY - Elias J. Amash "Babe," 96, passed away peacefully at home with his son, Arthur; daughter-in-law, Patti; and daughter, Linda; taking care of him on August 9, 2025. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Elias and Goldie (Myers) Amash. Elias was predeceased by his wife, Olga Amash. He was also predeceased by his grandmother, Elizabeth Amash, who raised him.
Elias started out as a cab driver and worked his way up through CDTA. He was a business agent for Local 1321 AFL CIO in the International Representative. He was also on the Colonie Democratic Committee and Union Label President and was an organizer and supporter of all unions which was important to him. Elias proudly served in the United States Navy.
Elias is survived by his children, Arthur Amash (Patricia), Howard Amash (Janet Powers), Linda Shagalski (the late John), Paul Amash (Deb) and Howard Amash and Paul Amash. He is also survived many grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Elias will also be missed by his beloved cat, Mindy.
Elias was predeceased by his daughter, Barbara Jean (Michael Corbeil). He was also predeceased by his granddaughter, Kelsey Shagalski; as well as his siblings, Joseph, Louis and Eileen.
The family would like to give a special thanks to all the hospice nurses for their love and compassion given to Elias and his family.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie, N.Y. 12205. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 16, at 10:00 a.m., at the funeral home, with entombment following at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
