Elias Verdy

Elias (Lou) Verdy, 98, lifelong resident of Framingham, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, December 3rd. Lou was the son of Themistocles and Gligeria Verdy; beloved husband of the late Mary Helen Verdy; devoted father of Karen (Jeffrey) Kisty, Lynne (David) Redonnet and Brian Verdy; cherished grandfather of Evan (Laura) Kisty and Eleni Kisty. He was also predeceased by his siblings Basil (Bill) Verdy and Antonetta (Nettie) Ekonomy. Lou was also uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Born in Framingham, Lou lived his entire life on the property first purchased by his parents, where, later, both he and his brother built homes and raised their families. A graduate of Framingham High School, he served in the Army during WWII.

His first job was delivering groceries with a wagon throughout the neighborhood for his father's corner grocery store. Later employment experience included working the assembly line at General Motors, a brief time as an insurance salesman and, finally, many decades at Computer Control Company/Honeywell as a production supervisor of several projects including the early Mariner and Gemini space missions. Lou volunteered tirelessly for Annunciation Orthodox Church in Natick, MA as altar server, choir member, Church Council treasurer, annual picnic crew worker, and Kosovo relief effort organizer.

Marshfield was his happy place where he enjoyed good times with family and friends and, mostly, just camped out in a chair on the sand. Lou enjoyed traveling which included a 6-week cross country road trip, after-retirement trips to the Caribbean and Europe and three trips to his ancestral homeland of Albania…..the first under Communist rule, the second to commemorate his 90th birthday with a side trip to Israel, and the third with his grandchildren. Each weekday morning for 30 plus years, he was an avid "mall walker" enjoying coffee and the company of friends.

Lou's funeral will be held at the Annunciation Orthodox Church, 37 Washington Street, Natick on Saturday, December 6th at 11:00AM. Viewing hours will precede the funeral beginning at 9:30AM at the Church. Interment to follow at Dell Park Cemetery, Natick.
