Eli Wells, age 79 of Centerville, passed away on September 1, 2025 at Oakwood Specialty Care in Albia.
Eli was born on July 8, 1946 the son of Clifford and Florene (Morrow) Wells. Sometime after school Eli joined and served his country faithfully in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged on March 24, 1971.
The simple things in life are what mattered most to Eli. His daughters Tammy and Janet were his pride and joy. Eli dedicated 32 years to Appanoose County, operating a road grader and driving a rock truck, retiring in 2003. He loved to tinker in his garage. He also loved to be out in his garden, and sharing produce with his friends any chance he got. Eli enjoyed his daily trip to Gordie's to check out what is going on throughout the community. He was also a member of the Eagles.
Eli is survived by his daughters, Tammy Cassady and Janet (Darin) Westhoff; grandchildren, Taylor (Slater) Thompson, Davis (Alexa) Westhoff; great-grandson, Newt Thompson; siblings, Rosalie (Don) Stevens and John Wells, along with several nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Eli is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jerry (Peggy) Wells; sisters, Kathy Hill, Emma Mericle, and Barb Garr.
Per wishes, cremation has been accorded. A graveside service will be held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Cincinnati, Iowa on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 10:00AM with Larry Bettis officiating. Military rites will be present at graveside. Memorials may be made to Furever Friends Rescue, and can be mailed to Thomas Funeral Home, ATTN: Wells Family, 501 North 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
