With great sadness we inform the community of the passing of Eliezer Zomer, z"l, who passed away on Thursday morning, February 8th.
Eli, known affectionately as "Eliko," was born in Tel-Aviv in 1946 to Chaim and Jenny, who made the harrowing journey from Romania in 1939 to find refuge in the Holy Land. Eli grew up in the dawn of Israel's independence and embodied the scrappy, adventurous, entrepreneurial spirit of a true sabra - he was a leader in the tzofim (Israeli scouts), got into a lot of good trouble, and served as a paratrooper who liberated Jerusalem in the 1967 Six-Day War. Eli came to the US where he earned a PhD in Biochemistry, the beginning of an incredible, global career in science with numerous patents and papers on biotech and drug development. While in the US, he met Judy (Golub), his partner and wife of 48 years. Eli was Abba to three children Ariel, David & Alisa and an amazing Saba to three grandchildren Zachary, Roxie & Yaara He was the much-loved middle brother of Natan Zomer and Dina Engel and adored by many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and colleagues. Eli had a wonderful life - he loved creating, building, gardening, baking, jelly-making, and, above all, he loved his family and Israel.
Services will be held at Schlossberg Family's Chapel, on the Hill, 824 Washington Street, Canton, on Sunday, February 11, at 10:00 am followed by interment at the Sharon Memorial Park, Jerusalem Section, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon. Zoom link available on request ([email protected]).
Shiva will be at the home of Judy Zomer on Sunday following the burial until 4:00 PM Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings: 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday & Thursday afternoons: 1:00PM -3:00 PM Friday: 11:00-2:00 PM
Donations in memory of Eli can be made to Yad Sarah at https://friendsofyadsarah.org/ or the charity of your choice.

Eli always welcomed me warmly into his and Judy's home on my visits there. He'd offer a cup of his own particular brew of tea along with a homemade treat of sweet fruit leather or a savory bite of Norwegian crisp bread. I enjoyed time spent with Eli, learning from him about human biochemistry, plants, and many aspects of the natural world. Ever industrious, I will miss seeing Eli and watching his latest projects progress. Blessed be Eli.

Eli, along with Judy always welcomed me warmly into his home offering an original brew of tea, or a tasty creation he and Judy ventured to make, like homemade fruit leather or Norwegian multi grain crackers. I enjoyed time with Eli and always learned from his vast knowledge of human biology and chemistry along with all aspects of the natural world. I will miss this man who enriched my life in the relatively short time I knew him.
