Elihu "Sandy" Sanford Tuttle III, 85, Nantucket, MA
Elihu "Sandy" Sanford Tuttle III, of Nantucket, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, February 9, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 85. He is survived by his children, Scott Tuttle, Skip Tuttle (and Jessica), Lee Costa (and Paul), and Laura O'Connell; his grandchildren Jackson, Wyatt, Austin, Olivia, Shaye, Mack, Claire, and Meegan; step-grandchildren Benjamin, Avery, and Mason; his sisters, Susan Bagley and Janet Risberg (and Roy); and his beloved dog, Leo. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Tuttle, and his parents, Elihu S. and Geneva Tuttle Jr.
Born and raised in Brockton, Massachusetts, Sandy continued his education at Boston University and served in the Army National Guard. He later took over his father's Ford dealership in Whitman, Massachusetts, successfully leading the business for several decades while expanding his ventures to Nantucket, the hometown of his beloved wife. Sandy fell in love with this cherished island and became a treasured member of the community. He was a familiar face, recognized for his devilish grin, quick wit, warm demeanor, and generous heart. Sandy's greatest joy came from his family, to whom he was deeply devoted as a husband and father. His legacy of love, humor, and kindness remains in the hearts of those he touched. Surrounded by close family and friends, Sandy's life was filled with adventure, laughter, and a sense of belonging, making his journey truly rich and fulfilled.
A celebration of life will be held in early Spring on Nantucket, the place he lovingly called home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Palliative & Supportive Care of Nantucket (pascon.org), Nantucket Island Safe Harbor for Animals (nishanimals.org) or the Nantucket VFW (vfwpost8608.org).
