Respectful, self-less, honorable, pure, and humble, Elijah Vincent Irvin was
born to his mother Tanya Gabriel and father Vincent Irvin on February 6th,
2005, in Harlem Hospital (NYC). The baby of the family, he was gifted and
talented. To the world he became known as "Edot Baby"; to our family he
was affectionately known as "Eli, E, or Elijah."
Elijah brought joy and laughter to so many and before entering the world,
he managed to upset his big sister Loris. Tanya's water broke as they got
ready for a movie date. Loris was given the privilege of naming her new
baby brother as a peace offering. She chose Elijah; it is truly fitting of his
larger-than-life peaceful spirit.
As a young man, he was curious by nature and anything he put his mind to,
he'd achieve. Building computers from scratch; he was eager to learn about
every and anything. Gracefully, he collected knowledge and connected with
the young and old authentically. He attended P.S.153 elementary school
and played baseball with the Harlem Little League.
Elijah embodied love. Some of our sweetest memories of him include his
love for sleeping next to his mom, ferociously wrestling with his father, his
obsession with video games and his bossy ways. And oh, how he loved his
Tiffany's special sweet yams, let's talk about it!
Well versed in gaming and technology, Elijah built a studio in his mom's
living room. He got a microphone at 13 years old and began to write and
produce his own music. He was passionate about his craft and was
persistent on shooting a music video. Relentlessly, he begged Loris to pay
for a music video. His words were "All I need to do is shoot this video."
Loris gave in and surprised him with the video shoot at his 15 th birthday
party.
The original video for "Ready 4 War" was shot at the party and as faith
would have it, the footage was deleted. Beyond devasted, he wasn't
discouraged and there was an impromptu re-shot of the video. Inevitably, it
was the epic launch of a promising career as Edot Baby the artist
blossomed.
Emerging as the underdog, he effortlessly delivered a raw and
incomparable flow and energy. His Spotify channel garners hundreds of
thousands of monthly listeners with millions of streams. Wise beyond his
years and entrepreneurial, he knew the power of ownership. Elijah was
most proud of owning his masters and remaining an independent artist.
Truly iconic, he was unfazed by fame and remained ambitious and
motivated to achieve his dreams, help his family and his community.
Edot Baby was self-made, and he opened doors for others to run with him.
A true legend, many would say his aura and quick rise with Drill music
pioneered and popularized drill in Sugar Hill. This we know to be a fact!!!
He took the honest route, worked hard, and shared the stage with his
friends. He wanted everybody to win and shine; that was simply his heart.
Elijah transitioned on November 3, 2022, but not before leaving a stamp on
our hearts. If love could have saved Elijah, he'd still be here to grace us
with his infectious smile. In true Elijah fashion, he selflessly returned to give
us flowers after his ascension.
Heartbroken, but honored to cherish the legacy and memories of Elijah are
mother; Tanya Gabriel, father; Vincent Irvin, siblings; Tiffany, Jordan, Loris,
Diamond, Princess, Jim, Juanita, Shamori, Shona, Tanisha, Lonnie, Sam,
nieces and nephews; Thaylan, Khyrie, Jace, Layla, Camryn, grandmother;
Loris Gordon, Godparents; Cynthia, Courtney, Crawford, Godsister;
Latisha, uncle Mark Gabriel and a host of aunts, cousins, friends, and fans
across the world. His beloved niece Tori, grandmother Bobbie Taylor,
uncles James "Poogie" Taylor and William "Billy" Gordon, Godmother
Chareylle, and brother Joseph were waiting at the gates of heaven to
welcome him.
Elijah, you have made us incredibly proud with your drive, ambition, and
loving spirit! You have left your mark on world, and we will miss you dearly.
As we hold you in our hearts forever, rest well and peacefully.
Lovingly, Your Family
