Elinor Brainerd Silva Gregory, 82, of Milford, beloved wife of Robert "Bob" Gregory, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 26, 1942 in Hartford, she was the daughter of the late Warren and Vera Brainerd.
Elinor was a hard working and devoted individual. She graduated from Berlin High School and went on to attend Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. She continued in her education journey at the University of Delaware Institute for Organizational Management. She married Ed Silva and had four children. Elinor and Ed proceeded to travel the world and made many friends and memories with their Army family.
She served as the Executive Director for the Southington Chamber of Commerce, Director of the Hill and Harbor Convention and Visitors Bureau, and as the Executive Director of the Greater New Haven Convention and Visitors Bureau. She was a treasured community servant in numerous capacities such as being honored as the Southington Jaycee Woman of the Year, the President of the Women's Auxiliary of Northern Little League, the President of the CT Tourism Association, and finally as the Executive Assistant to two consecutive Mayors of Milford, CT. Some of her favorite past-times included playing bridge, reading, traveling, and family vacations by the ocean, especially in Gloucester, MA. She was an avid fan of the UConn Huskies men's and women's basketball programs, and the Boston Red Sox.
Most importantly, Elinor took great pride in her family and all of their accomplishments. She was everyone's biggest cheerleader –showing up to every game, recital, concert, meets, and more. She was a loyal wife to her beloved husband, Bob, of 32 years.
Along with her husband, Elinor leaves behind her children, Charles "Ed" Edward Silva Jr. (Nicole Fallon), Kevin John Silva (Mary), Melinda Silva (Denise), Julie Silva Wlodarczyk; step children, Grayson Gregory, Melora Gregory (Dan DeSimone), and Asch Gregory (John Robertson); grandchildren, Max, Maya, Katie, Matthew (Sierra), Brian, Megan, Kent, Lucas, Grace, Charlie, Paige, Aschel, Isabel, and Ian; niece and nephew, Jennifer and Jay Brainerd; as well as many extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her brother, John Brainerd; former husband and friend, Charles Edward Silva; and her beloved pets, most notably her cat, Peek-a-boo.
Elinor will be loved and missed by all who have been touched by her.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street, Milford. A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at First United Church of Christ, 34 W Main St., Milford, CT 06460 (Meet directly at the church). Interment will follow at Milford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Beth-El Center, 90 New Haven Ave., Milford.
