Elio Varvaglione

Elio Varvaglione, 85, of Berwick, died Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family.
Born December 11, 1939 in Pulsano Taranto, Italy, he was the son of the late Francesco and Graziella (Camarda) Varvaglione.
He arrived in the United States on March 7, 1966.
Mr. Varvaglione was employed as a welder for Deluxe Homes, Argo, Salem House, and Design Homes. He retired from Berwick Hospital, where he was employed in Maintenance, in 2006.
Elio was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Berwick, and enjoyed being an active member of the Berwick YMCA and Ber Vaughn Pool.
He found great satisfaction from listening to Italian opera, working in his beautiful garden, taking walks, and sitting on the porch visiting with friends.
Traveling brought him much joy- including a memorable trip to Aruba with his family to celebrate his 50th wedding anniversary, and many trips to Italy and Florida to visit his family.
Preceding him in death were five siblings: Angelo, Cosimo, Tommaso, Antonio, and Clotilde.
Elio is survived by his wife of 59 years, the former Joan Vodnik; his son, Joe Varvaglione and his wife, Christine (Karchner), of Berwick; his daughter, Kathy Varvaglione of Tampa, FL; a granddaughter, Isabella Rose, of Berwick; three siblings: Angela, Filomena, and Gilda, all residing in Italy; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews, both in Italy and the USA.
A visitation will be held Sunday, October 19, 2025 from 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. at the Mayo Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Chestnut Street, Berwick. On Monday, October 20th, a visitation will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 721 Monroe Street, Berwick, from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M, with Rev. William T. Barbee, his pastor, officiating as Celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Berwick.
