Elisabeth Meinhardt, age 94, died on Thursday, September 11, 2025. She was born in Vertesacsa, Hungary on July 29, 1931 the daughter of Franz and Katherina (nee: Grumming) Schmidt.
Elisabeth was an avid reader and knew three languages. she enjoyed traveling back to Germany numerous times, but her favorite place to be was her cottage in Sturgeon Bay that her husband Chris built for her. She loved being an "oma " to her four grandchildren and she handed down many german customs to the family - which we hope to continue.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 72 years, Christian “Chris” Meinhardt, who passed away on August 6, 2025.
Elisabeth will be sadly missed by their two children, Heidimarie (Jeffrey) Steffes, James Meinhardt; 4 grandchildren, Joseph (Jessica) Steffes, Robert (Snehal) Steffes, Allison Meinhardt, Dylan (Andrea) Meinhardt and 5 great-grandchildren Mira Steffes, Christian Steffes, Adrian Steffes, Calvin Meinhardt and Roman Meinhardt. She is further survived by her niece Martina Lorenz.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother Joseph Schmidt.
To honor Elisabeth’s wishes no service will be held. Burial will be at Prairie Home Cemetery following cremation.
