Elizabeth Butler Obituary

Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Butler, 90, passed away Mar. 27, 2026, at her home.
She was born Dec. 31, 1935, to William Edward Fuquay and Myrtle Elizabeth White Fuquay in the Valley View Community in Martin County.
Her family moved to Stanton when she was about three years old. Betty attended school in Stanton through the eleventh grade and years later got her GED from Howard College in 1969.
She met the love of her life Charles Butler while working at the Belvue Restaurant in the early months of 1953. They married on June 10, 1953, and celebrated 70 years together.
Betty was a stay-at-home mom while her boys were growing up - she loved working in the church serving as Sunday school teacher, G.A. leader and Director, Women's Missionary Union member and president, and working in Vacation Bible School. When the boys were older, she went to work waiting tables at the Fina Cafe. In the fall of 1972, she went to work for Stanton Independent School District at the high school level. The first year as Study hall teacher, then the next seven as high school secretary. In 1980 she took a job in the administration office as Superintendent's Secretary. She retired in 2003, after 31 years with Stanton I.S.D.
Betty was interested in genealogy and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed reading the Bible, working crossword puzzles, knitting, and being with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sister Gerry Anderson, granddaughter Laycee Butler, great granddaughter Emelie Grace, brothers-in-law Deroy Anderson, Max Wheeler, Charles Cummings, and Bobby Edwards, and nephew Todd Anderson.
She is survived by her sons Les Butler and wife Tracey of Fort Worth, and Larry Butler and wife Lori of Stanton; sister Martha Cummings of Knoxville, TN; sisters-in-law Imogene Wheeler and Emily Edwards; grandchildren Shantel Pack, Shauna Compton, Sheila Shepard, David Butler, Shey Rivas, and Brani Salcido; 18 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, special nephew Cody Edwards, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A special thank you to Nancy, Brittany, Lilly, Isabelle, and Valerie who lovingly cared for her. And thank you to hospice nurses Pam and Sheryl.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Betty's name may be made to Hospice of Midland, Martin County Senior Citizens, or a charity of your choice.
Graveside services will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Gilbreath Funeral Home of Stanton. Online condolences may be made at www.npwelch.com.
