Elizabeth "Liz" Chirch was a woman whose warmth, kindness, and passion for life touched everyone she met. Born to Stanley and Darlys Crees, she was a beloved daughter, a caring sister to Charlie, and a cherished presence in the lives of her family and friends.

Liz grew up in Greenfield, Iowa, where her childhood was filled with small-town charm and strong community ties. Her mother, an elementary school teacher, instilled in her a profound love for learning and nurturing others-values that shaped Liz's path toward a career in childcare.

From a young age, Liz's adventurous spirit blossomed during annual family vacations, sparking a lifelong love for travel. Her heart for children led her to pursue an early childhood education degree at DMACC. She found immense joy in caring for little ones, whether at daycare centers or within her own family.

Liz's greatest pride was her two sons, Rykin and Kylar Belden. She loved watching her boys play soccer-from the time they were old enough to kick a ball to their Select team leagues in high school. Her unwavering support was a cornerstone of their lives.

Liz was a woman of creativity, with a passion for crafts, painting, and sewing. Whether she was stitching something special for a loved one, painting to express her imagination, or crafting with her children, she found joy in bringing beauty into the world.

In 2015, Liz met her soulmate, Jeremy Chirch. Their love story was one of joy and resilience, culminating in their wedding in June 2023, a celebration of new beginnings.

Her love for animals grew even deeper when she met Jeremy. Together they cherished their beloved dog, Luke, and later Denver, and Donut. Luke remains a cherished memory, his presence woven into their family's story. Denver and Donut continued to be loyal companions, bringing warmth and comfort to their home.

Liz enjoyed planning family road trips. Determined to visit all 50 states by age 50, she meticulously crafted each journey, searching through websites and travel apps to find quirky, obscure stops that fit their vacation theme. One favorite tradition was stopping to take a picture by the giant Mark Twain statue near Hannibal, Missouri-no matter how many times they passed it, it was a must. Along the way, they always sought out nearby state and national parks, taking time to hike, explore caves, and soak in the beauty of the world around them. Jeremy, always behind the wheel, loved having Liz beside him, ensuring each trip was a seamless adventure, turning her carefully planned routes into cherished memories.

In 2017, Elizabeth endured the devastating loss of her mother, a heartbreak that remained etched in her heart. Despite this sorrow, she continued to face life's challenges with grace and strength.

In 2023, Liz found another family in her colleagues at St. John's Lutheran Church, where she started working and later became Office Manager. She cherished the connections she made there, embracing her role with warmth and dedication.

After a courageous battle with cancer and complications from treatment, she passed on April 17, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and unwavering love.

She is survived by her husband, Jeremy Chirch; her children, Rykin and Kylar Belden; her father, Stanley Crees (Rana); her mother-in-law, Teresa Chirch; her brother, Charlie Crees (Katie);their children, Ethan, Xander, and Mackenzie; her grandmother, Edna Richardson; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Liz will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

A visitation will be held from 4PM-7PM on Wednesday, May 7th, at St. John's Lutheran Church (600 6th Ave, Des Moines). The funeral service will be at 11AM on Thursday, May 8th, also at St. John's Lutheran church with a luncheon following. An interment service will be held at a later date at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
