WATERFORD Elizabeth A. Derrick, 88, formerly of Van Ness St. passed away Monday September 22, 2025 at Collar City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Troy she was the daughter of the late Philip and Charlotte D'Aurio Fernet. She was a 1955 graduate of Catholic Central High School.
Betty had been employed as a school bus driver by the Waterford Halfmoon School District and retired in 1991. Her first job upon graduating from high school was with the NY Telephone Co. In her later years she served as Assistant Director of the Waterford Senior Center and was one of the founders of the Waterford Swimming Pool Association.
Betty had a special place in her heart for the elderly and did much respite care for the aging. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing Poker, Pinochle and Bocce.
Survivors include he devoted husband of 66 years, Irvin L. Derrick, her loving children Diane King (Wayne) of Troy, Philip L. Derrick (late Lisa) of Waterford, Steven G. Derrick (Monique) of Waterford, Sheila L. Wichelns (James) of Lancaster, SC, Gail E. Muller (Joseph) of Glenville, Alison M. Lyons (Paul) of Waterford and Matthew C. Derrick (Jamie) of Youngstown, Ohio. She is predeceased by her siblings, Frank, Harry, George, Ernie, Lorraine, Jean and Marion. She is the proud grandmother of 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, her childhood friend, Patricia Nolan, her best buddies, Donna Hansen, Teri Feldkamp and Pam Baisley. She is predeceased by her canine companion Ivy.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 am at Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte. 320, Waterford. Interment will follow at Waterford Rural Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday from 3-6 pm.
Those who wish may make memorial contributions in honor of Betty's Yorky, Ivy, to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave., Menands, NY 12204.
