Elizabeth Powell Eakle, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, has passed away at the age of 93. On May 24, 2024, Elizabeth passed away peacefully in her home in Greenbelt, MD, surrounded by the love of her dearest granddaughter Kristin. Her kind spirit and enduring legacy will live on through those whose lives she touched. She was born on August 21, 1930, in Spotsylvania County, VA, to her parents Anna and Oscar Powell where she grew up. She later relocated to Riverdale, MD, and then to Bladensburg, MD.

Elizabeth's journey began when she graduated from high school in 1947, setting the stage for a remarkable career in healthcare administration since the 1970s. She worked tirelessly at the former Prince George's Hospital in Cheverly, MD for over 30 years. Known for her unwavering work ethic and resilience, Elizabeth held various job titles throughout the healthcare field with a focus on administration during her tenure at the hospital.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Elizabeth's true joy came from spending time with her family. Holidays were always a special affair at her house, filled with laughter, love, and cherished memories that will forever be held dear by all who had the privilege of being part of her celebrations. She so much enjoyed her time with her great-grandchildren, who nicknamed her G-mom, and seeing them grow up as they were such a joy to her.

An avid reader with a particular fondness for authors like Stephen King, Elizabeth found solace and enjoyment in the pages of books. Her love for literature was just one facet of her rich personality - she was a hardworking woman who dedicated herself to providing for her family without ever wavering or giving up.

Elizabeth is reunited in eternal peace with her beloved husband Frank Lewis "Buddy" Eakle Jr., sons Francis Rene "Rennie" Eakle, and David Eugene "Gene" Eakle, daughter Elizabeth Ann Eakle, mother-in-law Katherine Eakle, father-in-law Frank Eakle Sr., father Oscar Powell, mother Anna Powell, brothers James Powell, Bob Powell, and Steve Powell,  and sister Dora Dalton. She leaves behind a legacy of love and strength for surviving family members: daughter Jacquline Eakle; granddaughter Kristin Eakle-Garcia and her loving husband Cristian Garcia; great-grandchildren Cristian Garcia Jr. and Khloe Garcia; granddaughter Christina Eakle-Guyer and great-granddaughter Emily Guyer; daughter-in-law Lillian Eakle; nephews Bob Powell Jr., Steven Powell, Charles Dalton, and Derek Dalton.

In honor of Elizabeth's life well-lived, a viewing will take place on May 31st from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Gasch's Funeral Home P.A. in Hyattsville, MD. Following the viewing, a graveside service will be held at Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM on the same day.

She may have left this world physically, but her spirit will forever remain as a beacon of strength and love for all who knew her. Elizabeth Powell Eakle will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
