Elizabeth Jane Goddard Garcia left to be with our Lord on June 23, 2023. She was born in La Madera, NM in 1923 to Augusta Carrillo and Clarence Goddard who worked at the Hallack and Howard Sawmill. Jane lived most of her life in El Rito, NM except for a short while in Gallina, Chama and Valle de Los Caballos.
When she came home from the hospital that evening of the 23rd, she said "I just took my last ride home." She demanded to leave the hospital to be in her bedroom in the house that her husband Deacon Fabian Garcia Jr. built for her when she was 19. Fabian preceded her in death in 2005. Jane was the love of his life! She lovingly cared for him. Due to Alzheimer's disease, he forgot his children, but never forgot Jane. His eyes would light up when she walked into his presence.
Mom made a family of 12 celebrating every holiday together with great décor and food. She was the best baker, with her fresh bread and cinnamon rolls. She was an avid reader and a self-taught domestic engineer. Very well versed on any subject. She was an accomplished seamstress; she would sew all through the night and each of us eight girls would have a beautiful new dress for Christmas and Easter; and even made our wedding dresses. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She prayed the rosary many times daily. She was a founding member of the Crusillo Movement. She cooked many meals for every Priest that was assigned to El Rito. Her greatest legacy was raising ten children in the ways of the Catholic Church who believe in Jesus Christ. We are comforted to know we will be with our Mom again. She was our doctor and a good one, she kept all of us alive.
Juan Garcia (Annette)is now the patriarch and a good leader.
Judy Lucero (Raymond) Her eldest daughter is most like her mom.
Augusta Griego has been her secretary/banker and advisor.
Barbara Garcia was her go to person to upkeep the house and yard.
Cecilia Satchwell (Steve) The calm and intelligent person for wise solutions.
Pamela Montrose (Gary) Pam a Retired Air Force Major and a Eucharistic minister.
Ronnie Garcia (Lorraine) has maintained our Dad's Sheep Ranch.
Sandra Candelaria (Joe) is the medical technician for the family.
Christine Garcia (Mike) is the friend of horses, geese, and all animals.
Melanie Garcia lived with Mom and provided her everyday love and care.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Clarence, George, John, Walter, Gabriel, and Daniel Goddard, and her sisters Pauline Day and Genevieve Newton.
She is survived by all her 10 children, 21 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Nathan Lente, John Garcia, Thomas, David and Donald Griego, Mark and Kevin Coca, and Joseph Montrose.
Public viewing will be on Thursday June 29, 2023 at 9:00 am at the San Juan Nepomuceno Catholic Church in El Rito, NM. Rosary will be held at 9:30 am. Mass to follow at 10:00 am. Burial will be at the Garcia Cemetery in El Rito, NM after the Mass.
The family deeply thanks every one of you and greatly appreciates all the comforting words and prayers you have shared with us.
