Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Kiwak, 82 of Scottsdale, Arizona passed away on December 21, 2023 after suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. Betty, formerly of Indianapolis, Indiana was a graduate of George Washington High School and Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana with a Bachelor and Master degrees in education.
Betty never met a stranger, loved to travel and loved her family. Betty taught school in Muncie and Gary, Indiana and returned to teaching later in life, retiring from the Glendale Arizona School System.
Betty was a long time member of the St. Maria Goretti Roman Catholic Church, 6262 N. Granite Reef Road, Scottsdale, Arizona and a member of their Choir. Betty was also a member of the Order of Franciscans and proud of her 37 years of sobriety.
Betty is survived by her daughter Misty Elizabeth Kiwak-Jacobs, MDiv,STM of Massachusetts, grandchildren Isaiah Jacobs, Scottsdale, Arizona and CJ Jacobs, Brooklyn, New York and her beloved dog Consuela also known as Baby Dog. In addition, siblings Dale Smotherman, Doug (Billie) Smotherman, Darleen Smotherman, Indianapolis and Connie (Mark) Henderson of Reno, Nevada along with numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents Melvin and Mary Smotherman, brother Melvin John Smotherman and sister Marilyn Hefley.
Betty has been cremated and will be entombed at Floral Park Cemetery, Indianapolis, Indiana. A private gathering will be held in Betty’s memory at a future date.
