Flanner Buchanan Cremation & Burial - Floral ParkDavid E. Cook of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away at age 84 at Life’s Journey Hospice of Avon on February 27th, 2026. His devoted sisters were at his side.
David was born to Edward and Edith (Lantz) Cook in Indianapolis on January 30th, 1942. He will be greatly missed by his family. Survivors include his two sisters: Marsha Edwards, with whom he shared a condo, and Ellen (Mike) Nosie of Plainfield. He had 4 nieces and one nephew, plus great nieces and nephews and beloved cousins.
David graduated from George Washington High School in 1959 and went on to IU Bloomington to earn a BA in Government. He then attended IU School of Law for 3 years before joining the Air Force. He served in the intelligence branch in Samsun, Turkey, and became Captain Cook before leaving the Air Force. David then moved to Chicago and worked for the Department of Labor until returning to Indianapolis.
David loved reading, playing cards and games with family, and classical music. He was shy, but kind to people and animals, including strays. For many years, he helped wallpaper, paint, move, and care for pets for his sisters’ houses.
David had been living with Parkinson’s Disease for 3 years when he learned December 1, 2025, that he had myelofibrosis, a deadly cancer. He was determined to fight it and had started treatments, but the cancer quickly turned to leukemia. The doctors said there was nothing to help him at his age.
In his last 5 weeks in hospice, he experienced wonderful caregivers and daily visits with his sisters and family. He enjoyed crosswords and mahjong on a tablet, as well as treats like ice cream and Long’s Donuts. He listened to his classical and French music and watched every video available of Andre’ Rieu concerts.
Services will be held at Flanner Buchanan Floral Park, 425 N. Holt Road, Indianapolis, on Wednesday March 4, 2026. Calling will be from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm, with the funeral service at 1:00 pm. He will be laid to rest at Floral Park Cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Parkinson’s Foundation or an animal rescue of your choice.
