Elizabeth Mae Crooks Duncan, loving mother, sister, and treasured friend, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2025, in Lansing, MI, at the age of 95. Born on October 24, 1929, in Paris, KY, Elizabeth's warmth and resilience were hallmarks of a life well-lived, touching the lives of everyone she knew.
Elizabeth's commitment to nurturing not only graced her family life but also her professional pursuits. She served as a dedicated dietician at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, KY, and at St. Lawrence Hospital in Michigan. Her caring nature was a comfort to many throughout her career. As a fervent member of the Reachout Christian Center Church in Lansing, MI, she lived her faith and radiated a love that deeply moved her community.
Family was the cornerstone of Elizabeth's world. She is survived by five children, Clayton Lee (Dorthea) Rankin, Charlotte Duncan Smith, Douglas Duncan, Kim (Lisa) Duncan, and DelCarlos (Carmela) Duncan, Sr. Her life was further enriched by a host of beloved grandchildren, three sisters, Shirley Crooks, Brenda Hart, Patricia Crooks, and several cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Duncan, her parents, Dawson Crooks, Sr. and Elizabeth Paige Crooks, her daughter Doralitta Tyler, two brothers, Dawson Crooks, Jr. and Grant Crooks, and six sisters, Mary Johnson, Hazel Brown, Fannie Crooks, Verline Crooks, Frances Crooks, and Lou Dobbins.
Those who knew Elizabeth will remember her as a loving, faith-filled, and selfless woman. She possessed the rare gift of elevating the everyday into moments of simple joy. With love in her heart and an ever-present smile, she shaped a legacy that will continue to resonate in the lives of those she has left behind. Elizabeth's life is a beautiful testament to the power of kindness and the strength of family bonds. Her memory will forever be a beacon of light and goodness to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 PM Friday February 21, 2025, at the Lusk-McFarland Funeral Home, 1120 Main St., Paris, KY by Rev. Dr. Morgan Gilkey. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memory Garden, Paris, KY.
Visitation will be from 11:00 AM Friday until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Jay Jones, Jr., Anthony Torrence, Aaron Smith, Ashley Johnson, Orlando Miles, Jose Crooks
