Elizabeth "Betty" Mathias, 92, of Washington, Indiana went to be with the Lord on January 31, 2026. She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on March 28, 1933, to the late Theodore "Ted" and Mary Murphy. Betty graduated from Washington Catholic School in 1951. She began her career with Southern Bell, later known as Indiana Bell, as a switchboard operator and worked with them until her retirement. Betty was a member of the Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church and attended the Divine Will Prayer Group. She also enjoyed volunteering for the Daviess Community Hospital for many years. In her free time, Betty would make rosaries. She will be deeply missed.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents Ted and Mary Murphy; husband Vic Mathias; son William Monaghan; daughter Terri Steffey; grandson Austin Monaghan; sisters Joan Woods, Ruth Ann Veale, and Carolyn Boarman.
She is survived by her children Daniel (Susan Fulton) Monaghan, Bernard (Danette Piccolella) Monaghan, Emma (Brian) Edwards, George Macey, Cindi Steffey Gilmore, Gena (Mark) Little; sister Marilyn Rigo; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.
Goodwin-Sievers is honored to be entrusted with the care of Betty. Visitation will be held February 10, 2026, in Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, at 10 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin promptly at 11 am in Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church.
