Elizabeth "Betty" Murphy, 91, passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at Inova Fairfax Hospital,
Fairfax, VA. She was the loving wife of Ronald V. Murphy, whom she married on August 3, 1963, in
Rome, NY. Born on October 24, 1934, in Hazelton, PA, she was the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Kavalecs) Marcisofsky. She graduated from Hazelton Senior High School in 1952 and immediately began her career as a civil servant at Griffiss AFB,
Rome, NY. Her career as an Army logistician took her to assignments in
Oklahoma City, OK; Joliet, Ill; and
Arlington, VA. Her duties led to frequent travel throughout the Far East and Europe. She retired from civil service in 1989 in the grade of GS-14 while serving at the Pentagon.
She was an active member of Greenspring Retirement Community and Holy Spirit Catholic Church. She enjoyed golfing, traveling, reading, and most of all, spending quality time with friends and family. She had an incredibly positive outlook on life, always seeing the good in people. To quote Betty "I believe I am the most fortunate. I had loving parents, siblings that no matter the difference in our ages always looked out for me, and a loving husband".
She is survived by her spouse Ron, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, January 26, 2026, at 11:00 AM, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 5121 Woodland Way,
Annandale, VA, with interment immediately following at Fairfax Memorial Park. A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 25, 2026, from 3:00 – 5:00 PM at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Road,
Fairfax, VA. In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made in her name to the "Benevolent Care Fund" at Greenspring Retirement Community, 7440 Spring Village Drive,
Springfield, VA, 22150.
