Elizabeth Jean Murray, 90, of Folkston Georgia, passed away on March 26, 2026. Born on April 12, 1935, in Folkston, Jean lived a long and beautiful life in the same community where she was raised.
Jean was a woman of quiet grace and sweetness, the kind of person who made everyone around her feel welcomed and deeply cared for. She loved her friends and family with a gentle, steady devotion that defined her character. Those who knew her understood that her warmth wasn’t loud or showy; it was constant, dependable, and sincere.
A loving mother and grandmother, Jean found joy in the simple, meaningful moments of life. She was an avid gardener who spent countless hours tending to her plants and flowers, nurturing beauty from the ground up. She was equally gifted with needlework, reflecting her patience, attention to detail and the care she put into everything she touched. Whether in the garden or with a crochet hook in hand, Jean created things of lasting beauty for those she loved.
Jean was an active member of Philadelphia Free Will Baptist Church in Folkston and also held close ties to Springhill Baptist Church in Fernandina Beach, Florida. Above all she was a devoted lover of Jesus Christ, and her faith was the foundation on which she built her life. That faith sustained her, guided her, and gave her a deep sense of peace that radiated to everyone around her.
Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jasper Claude Murray, Jr., and her three sisters: Geraldine Faust (Clyde), Mary Sue Wheeler (Jim), and Faye McMillan (Larry). She is survived by her son, Jasper Claude Murray, III (Sandra) of Jacksonville, FL and grandchildren: Kristen Chu (Steven) of St. Petersburg, FL and Timothy Murray (Cristina LaPaglia) of Deer Park, TX, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The viewing will be held at Shepard-Roberson Funeral home in Folkston on Wednesday, April 1 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 2 at 11:00 A.M. at the Trader’s Hill Cemetery with Reverend Ray McMillan officiating.
