Elizabeth Ann Nelms

Elizabeth Ann Quarles Nelms, age 103, received her heavenly call to be with the Lord on August 27, 2025. She was born on May 6, 1922 to the late William Joseph Quarles and Elizabeth Ann Franklin Quarles. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-eight years, Matthew Nelms and her bonus grandson, Kevin Martin.

Elizabeth joined Mt. Olivet Baptist Church at an early age and faithfully attended until her health began to decline. As a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist, she served on the Senior Choir, Sunday School Secretary, Deaconess and as the mother of the church until her death. For many years she fellowshipped at New Zion Baptist Church during the years that she resided in the Body Camp neighborhood. Elizabeth retired from Body Camp Elementary School as kitchen aide/custodian. Most of the neighborhood children called her "Miss Lizzie."

To the union of marriage, she is survived by her four children, Annie Jenkins, Matthew (Linda) Nelms, Wanda Nelms and Albert (Barbara) Nelms.

As matriarch of a five-generation family, she has six grandchildren, Shawna, Kevin, Latasha, Lawanda, Albert Jr. "BJ" and Lamar (Christie) Nelms. She has a host of great grandchildren which includes, Candace (Jared) Knight, Alexis, Calvin, Brian, Taniesha, Cameron, Kaybri and Kyitt Nelms, who brought her great joy in her last days. She also has great-great grandchildren, Micah and Ian Knight and her bonus grandchildren Kenyon, Elijah, KJ, Kendrick Goggins and Leighla Martin. Elizabeth leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
