Elizabeth A Ober, US Navy veteran, and long-time resident of
Summitville, N.Y. passed away on September 27, 2025. Elizabeth, 66, was
raised in Hicksville, NY, and settled in the Catskill mountains after
her long career as a Navy officer. After her service in the Navy, Beth
enjoyed a career as a teacher and counselor.
She had a big heart and love for animals. Her lifelong passion for
animal rescue was foreshadowed in childhood. On one memorable occasion,
she enlisted the help of other children with the careful transfer of
thousands of tadpoles from a dessicating roadside puddle to a suitable
stream so that they would have a chance at survival. Beth rescued and
loved dozens of dogs and cats over her lifetime, often choosing to take
in the least adoptable, nurturing them into trusting and loving pets.
Beth was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Lucille Ober. She
is survived by her brothers and sister, numerous nieces, nephews,
grandnephews/niece and friends.
Burial will be at Pine Bush Cemetery, Kerhonkson, NY. Contributions in
her memory may be made to Pets Alive, Middletown, New York (petsalive.org).
