It is with deep love and gratitude that we celebrate the life of Joan Elizabeth McLoughlin—a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, wife, and friend—who went home peacefully to be with her Lord on September 8, 2025, at the age of 78.
Born on July 27, 1947, in Brooklyn, New York, to James Andrew and Elsie May Boroski, Joan took great pride in her family heritage as a descendant of Edward Raynor III, one of the original founders of Raynortown (now Freeport, Long Island) in the 1640s.
Joan’s greatest devotion was her unwavering love for Jesus Christ and her family. She poured her heart into raising her children, teaching them through example how to live with integrity, faith, and love—even during life’s most difficult seasons. She cared tenderly for her husband, faithfully standing by his side through every stage of their journey together.
Those who knew Joan will remember her as strong, hardworking, and steadfast in her convictions, yet full of compassion. She retired at age 73 as a transportation specialist with Ulster County ARC, an organization that provides vital services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including those on the autism spectrum.
Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing that Joan is resting in the presence of her Savior, who promised eternal life: “Truly, truly, I say to you, the one who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.” (John 5:24)
Joan is survived by her son, Frank Romanek Jr.; her daughter, Joanne Louise Krom; and her beloved grandchildren: Amanda Elizabeth Knight, Danielle Elizabeth Harris, Candice Lee Metzger, Malachi Romanek, Brandon Michael Andrew Krom, Daniel Gabriel Edwin Krom, Aaron Romanek, and Amber Grace Romanek. She is also lovingly remembered by her great-grandchildren, Evangeline (Evie) Alice Knight and Anna Elizabeth Harris. Her husband, Dennis McLoughlin, will forever cherish her memory. We hope that all who knew her will continue her legacy of compassion and faith. In addition, countless friends and loved ones will hold dear the generosity, laughter, and wisdom she shared throughout her life.
A graveside service honoring Joan’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on September 18, 2025, at Greenfield Cemetery, 650 Nassau Road, Uniondale, NY. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate the beautiful life she lived.
For those who are unable to attend the funeral on Long Island, a Celebration of Life will be held at Chapel on Main, 331 Main Street, Kerhonkson, NY, on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joan’s memory to Chapel on Main, P.O. Box 3, Kerhonkson, NY 12446 or through the link support link provided below. These donations will benefit the poor whom the chapel ministers to in both Pakistan and India—a cause that was especially close to Joan’s heart, as she had a deep compassion for the poor and for children in desperate situations.
