Bette was born on December 15, 1931, in Hamlin County, SD, to Thomas E. Flanagan and Margaret 'Gretchen' (Ruhr) Flanagan. She was one of six children. Bette was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith and later after her marriage, she became a member of the Lutheran faith of the Wisconsin Lutheran Synod. She attended and graduated from Henry High School, Henry, SD, where she was active as a 'Henry Owl' cheerleader.
On October 4, 1950, Bette married Eldon Redlin at St. Martin's Lutheran Church in
Watertown, SD. To this union, four children were born. Yes, all girls. After trying their hand at farming during the hard years, eventually they took over the Henry grocery store on a handshake from the previous owner. They named the store, 'Redlin's Superette'. They were blessed to have shared 71 years of marriage prior to Eldon's passing in May of 2022.
Bette was a member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Ladies Club for several years. She also spent time assisting in the kitchen of St. Martin's Lutheran School.
She and Eldon enjoyed dancing, traveling, camping and spending time with family. She was a busy homemaker and was always attentive to everyone's needs acting as the perfect hostess. Bette enjoyed cake decorating for a period of time and she loved feeding and watching the birds in the yards of every home they lived in. She spent many of her waking hours trying to outsmart the squirrels that were wreaking havoc with the birdfeeders. As a result of their many trips over the years to the Black Hills or to the mountains of Colorado, she became very fond of buffalo for their strength and beauty.
Bette is survived by her four daughters: Wendy Lee (Michael L. 'Mike') Walsh, Pamela Kay 'Pam' (William 'Bill') Endres, Sandra Jo (Robert 'Bob') Fox, all of
Watertown, SD, and Tracy Diane (Rev. Peter) Unnasch, Cudahy, WI; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two brothers, Kenny (Peggy) Flanagan, Thompson Falls, MT, and John (Jill) Flanagan, Prescott, AZ; several nieces and nephews and two step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon; her parents; one brother, Donald Flanagan, and two sisters, Dorothy Wensing and Karen Carrion.
The family would like to extend a note of appreciation to the staff at Edgewood Cedar View for the exceptional care they provided our mother the past three years. We are also grateful for the care and compassion she received from Prairie Lakes Home Health Hospice.
