Elizabeth Roe Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Memorial Park Funeral Home & Cemetery on Jan. 2, 2026.
Mary Elizabeth Roe, 87, a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025 surrounded by her family. Born on December 19,1938 to William and Mary Elizabeth Cocke in Memphis Tennessee. She will be laid to rest beside her husband, Jesse Clyde Roe of 27 years. Her gift for guidance and inspiration touched the lives of her children, grandchildren and extended family. Mary Elizabeth dedicated her life to creating a warm and nurturing home for many years. Her love for God and prayer was held deep in her heart.

As a mother of five, grandmother of seven and great-grandmother of three, Mary Elizabeth was the heart of the family. Her nurturing spirit extended to her furry companions as her home was always filled with the pitter-patter of paws.

Mary Elizabeth's greatest joy came from spending time with her family and friends. As children some of our fondness memories were spent at our cabin in Tannenbaum. Her homemade apple pies and rolls were legendary. Christmas was without a doubt her favorite holiday and she made it anything other than ordinary, a memory we will cherish forever.

Mary Elizabeth is survived by her children Clyde (Christy), Susan (Roger), David, Robert and Elizabeth (David); Grandchildren , to whom she was affectionately know as, Ninny. Lauren, Trey (Hannah) Lillian (Philip), Lindsay, Chris (Marisa), Steven(Courtney), Brent(Ashley) and their growing families; Great grandchildren Frankie, Mila and Oliver. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Elizabeth and William Cocke and husband, Jesse Clyde Roe.

Mary Elizabeth attended Snowden Jr High school, Central High School, as well as The University of Memphis where she was active in Phi Mu - Kappa Lambda sorority. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be sent to Le Bonheur

The Roes were our neighbors on Keatswood Circle. We send our love and remembrance to all of you. Your mother Elizabeth brought us dinner the night we brought Baby Alan home from the hospital Oct 1971. I´ll always remember this act of kindness. When David was about 8, he became disoriented at the MidSouth Fair and couldn´t find his group. He struck out on his own to walk toward home - quite a distance! By then, the family was calling around. Maybe we had brought him home? No, we said and then the Roes were really panicked. Where was David? He came to our back door, really sweaty and thirsty. He was so brave, and we´ll never forget that story either. Lots of love from Mary Robin, Richard, Alan and mom, Robin Davis.
