Elizabeth Taus Obituary

Taus, Elizabeth May

Elizabeth May Taus (nee Masa) passed on August 5, 2025 at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Frank Victor. She was a graduate of Farragut High School and Chicago Teachers College earning a Bachelors degree with Honors. She was a 66 year resident of Riverside, IL to the exact day. Elizabeth spent more than 32 years teaching in the Chicago Public School System spending almost all of those years at Robert Burns Elementary School which she had attended as a child. She cultivated great friendships with her colleagues while teaching and was passionate about providing a broad education to her students often including music, singing and art to accompany the academic curriculum. She remained a lifelong educator to many after her retirement in 1994.

Elizabeth also had the pleasure of being a tram narrator at the Brookfield Zoo where she worked among her favorite animals while making friends with co-workers. In later years she continued her lifelong hobbies as an avid reader and crossword puzzler, handily completing each week's NYT Sunday puzzle in ink. She kept busy building a Victorian dollhouse from scratch, reading poetry, listening to classical music and traveling with her husband. She enjoyed staying active bicycling and walking around town meeting neighbors and their children and petting every dog she met. She is survived by her children Victoria (Darrell), Chris (Judy) and Nancy (Tim); grandchildren Emily (Matt), Anna, Mike and Jack (Jordyn) and great grand-daughter Rose.
