It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Gayle Thomas who left us peacefully on August 21, 2025 at the age of 78. Gayle was a devoted wife to Jimmy for 59 wonderful years, a testament to her unwavering love and commitment. Born on June 11, 1947, Gayle was a kind-hearted and loving teacher. She devoted her life to nurturing others with wisdom, compassion, and a warm smile. A proud Alabama Roll Tide fan, she brought the same enthusiasm to football as she did to everything she loved. She deeply loved and adored her grandchildren, and shared a special bond with her grand-dog Rider. She found peace in the sound of ocean waves, beauty in every flower, and joy in a good western movie. An avid reader and a talented cook, she filled her home with the comforting aromas of homemade meals and the quiet rustle of turning pages. Her gentle spirit, generous heart, and deep love for life will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
She is preceded in passing by her parents Doyle and Mary Elizabeth Smith. Left to cherish her memory is her husband Jimmy Thomas, daughters Anissa (Phil) Blair, Amber (Brian) McCarver, son Daniel Thomas, grandchildren Tristan (Sarah) McCarver, Wade Blair, Lauren (Cody) Matthews, Gracie Blair, and Drew McCarver, great granddaughter Olivia Robertson, sister Laurel (John) Kingsley, brother Roger (Carmella) Smith, stepmom Mary Smith, and stepsister Jeanne (Randy) Kerr, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral Services will be at 1pm on Monday, August 25, 2025 at Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home. Anthony Copeland will officiate. Visitation will be from 11-1pm for family and friends. Burial will follow at Walkers Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brian McCarver, Tristan McCarver, Drew McCarver, Phil Blair, Wade Blair, and Cody Matthews. Special thanks to ACG Hospice and Shirley, Hannah, and Hannah Elizabeth.
"Mothers never really die, they just keep the house up in the sky, they polish the sun by day and light the stars that shine at night, keep the moonbeams silvery bright and in the heavenly home above they wait to welcome those they love."
