Elizabeth L. Weisse

Elizabeth (Betty) Weisse, 93, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on October 18, 2025, in New Providence, New Jersey. Born Elizabeth Louise Geurink on September 21, 1932, to Dorothy and Harry Geurink in Cleveland Ohio, she spent most of her adult life living in Union and Morris counties in New Jersey. She was a pioneer resident at Lantern Hill since 2016 and was active in the community there, before passing away on Saturday. She spent her youth in Shaker Heights Ohio and after graduating from Beaumont Academy there, she went on to earn a bachelor's degree at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.
In 1953 Betty met Peter Weisse in Shaker Heights and they went on to marry and have 5 children: Katherine Elizabeth Perkins (Bruce), James Peter Weisse (Felix Santos), Patricia Ann Weisse (George Thomas), John Patrick Weisse, and Thomas Robert Weisse (Cherie). Betty was predeceased first by her parents and brother and then by son John in 1991 and husband Peter in 2011. She is survived by her 4 remaining children and their spouses, in addition to 9 grandchildren: Elizabeth Thomas, Marshall Thomas, Austin Perkins, Evan Perkins, Brian Perkins, William Thomas, Felix Santos, Courtney Weisse Dowling, Renee Santos and Mallory Weisse, and 10 great grandchildren. Betty's most significant achievement was her family and raising her 5 children.
She also had a strong spiritual faith and was active in her local Catholic Church. As her children were attending elementary and high school in Summit, she was involved in the women's auxiliary at Overlook Hospital, and for a period served as the hospital auxiliary's president. When her children left home, she worked as a paralegal before retiring with Peter for several years to Vero Beach Florida where Peter passed away in 2011. After his passing, she moved back to New Jersey to be closer to family. She was courageous, outspoken and loving and lived her life with determination and persistence.
