It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Eljean Nesmith, who departed this life on April 10, 2025, at the age of 94. Eljean Rita Carline Chauvin Nesmith was Born on February 28, 1931, “down the bayou” in Bayou Sorrel, Louisiana, of Iberville Parish. To get the midwife for her delivery, the family house boat had to be towed from Bayou Chene to Bayou Sorrel. Eljean brought warmth and love to all who knew her. She will be remembered not only for her role as a devoted homemaker but also for her passion for floristry and her talent in ceramics, which brought joy to all who knew her.
A loving and passionate cook, Eljean was known for her hot tamales and the delicious meals she prepared for family gatherings. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering support brought joy to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Eljean had an adventurous spirit and a passion for travel and camping, which allowed her to explore and create lasting memories with her loved ones.
Eljean is survived by her four sons: Darryl Chauvin and wife Jean, Kirk Chauvin and wife Joy, Dale Chauvin, and Wendell Chauvin, as well as her daughter Gilda McBride and husband Wayne. She is also survived by her sisters, Diane Carline Bridges and Judy Carline Nini. Eljean's legacy also includes 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren who will carry her memory forward.
Eljean was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Carrie Allen Carline; one brother, Ivan Carline Jr.; her two husbands, James Nesmith and Gildon Chauvin
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff of Patterson Health Care Center and ACG Hospice for their compassionate care during Eljean's final days.
Funeral services will be held in her honor on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. A public viewing will take place at Twin City Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and continue the following morning with another public viewing from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM. Friends and family are invited to gather for a rosary at 6:00pm Tuesday, April 15,2025. A Mass will be celebrated at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Berwick, LA on April 16, 2025, at 10:00 AM, where friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance of Eljean.
