Ella Mae Astrab (Holmes) passed away peacefully and with grace on February 24, 2026, in
Peekskill, New York, at the age of 93-just two months shy of her 94th birthday.
Born on April 28, 1932, in Peekskill, Ella was a proud graduate and distinguished alumna of Peekskill High School. While still in high school, she earned a bookkeeping certificate and began working in local business offices. During this time, she met Robert J. Astrab, also a graduate of Peekskill High School. They married and briefly began their life together in San Diego, California. However, after two years, Ella's love for home and family brought them back to New York, where they settled near their families in Peekskill. Ella and Robert later established their home in Yorktown, where they lovingly raised their three children: Robert J. Astrab Jr., Donald P. Astrab, and Nancy E. Schunk.
Throughout her life, Ella was devoted to serving her family and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In retirement, she found great joy in nurturing her grandchildren and traveling. Her journeys took her to Israel, Egypt, Alaska, and many of the United States' treasured national parks. Ella also had a deep love of music. She enjoyed playing the organ, performing in recitals, and traveling with her organ club.
Ella was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert J. Astrab, in 1997.
She is survived by her children: Robert J. Astrab Jr. and his wife Amy of Branson, Missouri; Donald P. Astrab and his wife Meritiana of Austin, Texas; and Nancy Ellen Schunk and her husband William (Bill) Schunk of Cortlandt Manor, New York. Ella was the proud grandmother of nine: Adam, Joseph, and Nolan (children of Robert Jr.); Cheyenne and Leilani (children of Donald and Meritiana); and Nicholas, Kristy, James, and Tyler (children of Nancy and Bill). She was also blessed with thirteen great-grandchildren: Everett and Cannon (children of Cheyenne and Jeff Rutter); Violet (daughter of Adam and Stacy Turner); George, Alice, and Evelyn (children of Joseph and Elizabeth Astrab); Zoey (daughter of Nicholas Schunk); Theodore, Nathan, and Sebastian (children of James and Alyssa Schunk); and Steven and Lucy (children of Kristy and Thomas Patalano).
Ella will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her deep love for family, her musical talents, and the grace with which she lived her life.
A funeral service honoring her life will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, March 7th, 2026, at the Reformed Church of Cortlandtown in Montrose, New York.
Interment to follow at Hillside Cemetery, 1033 Oregon Road, Cortlandt Manor, New York.
