Ella Jorgensen

1940 - 2021

Ella Gray Sullivan Jorgensen, beloved daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 22, 2021.
She was born in Duplin County, North Carolina on April 6, 1940, as the only child of loving parents, Samuel James Sullivan and Nellie Lewis Sullivan McDonald.
Ella Gray graduated with a degree in Special Education from East Carolina College, where she met her future husband, Larry. She and Larry married in Goldsboro on July 23, 1961 and two weeks later, were sealed in the Idaho Falls temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Larry and Ella Gray were married for 53 years. Their children remember that Larry and Ella Gray never fought and always treated each other with respect and honor.
Ella Gray's greatest successes and happiness were in the home. She spent much of her adult life lovingly running the household, raising her four children, and supporting Larry, who practiced dentistry in Jacksonville for many years. She was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where she faithfully served in many callings. Ella Gray was a teacher at several Onslow County elementary schools for almost 20 years. She loved her students and always sought to help each one reach his or her potential. She was fiercely loyal to her family and friends and always lived by "the Golden Rule." Ella Gray was known for her gracious spirit, warm heart, and refined manner. She was the quintessential Southern belle, who had a standing appointment to have her hair done every week.
Ella Gray is survived by a posterity of her children, Larry Green Jorgensen Jr. (Tatyana), James N. Jorgensen, Jill Jorgensen Lake (John), and Michael John Jorgensen; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by both of her parents and husband.
A small graveside service will be held on Friday, January 29, 2021 at the Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville.
