Ella Marie Nelson

Ella Marie Hermann Feldman Nelson, of Milaca, Minnesota, formerly of Canton, South Dakota was born July 7, 1927 near Canton, South Dakota to Hilda Katherine (Langfeldt) Hermann and Ernest Paul Hermann. She died Friday, March 20, 2026, at the age of 98 years old.

She grew up on a farm north of Canton and graduated from Canton High School. Soon after, she worked as a nanny and housekeeper for a family in Brookings, SD. When she moved to Milaca, she married Elmer Feldmen, and was widowed. Subsequently she married and later divorced John Nelson, who preceded her in death.

Ella lived on a farm near Milaca where she had dairy cattle. Her hobbies included flower and vegetable gardening, fishing, crocheting, rummaging, and loving her farm cats and dogs. She also enjoyed travel to northern Europe. In general, Ella enjoyed the farm life and nature very much.

She lived her last years at Elim Meadows Health Care Center in Milaca. Ella was very appreciative of the excellent care she received as a resident of Elim Meadows.

Ella was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; brother Delbert Julius Hermann; and three sisters Isabelle Mary Hermann, Lyda Erma (Hermann) Short, and Iola Alma (Hermann) Short.

She is survived by one sister Harriet Hilda (Hermann) Kuehl; stepson Don Nelson; a cherished great nephew John Hermann; many nieces, nephews and other relatives; and close friend Linda Wirz.

In lieu of flowers, gifts can be sent to help cover her funeral expenses in care of Harriet Kuehl, 48161 280th St, Canton, SD 57013. Ella will be interred in her family’s plot at Canton Lutheran Cemetery, Canton, SD on Thursday, March 26,2026, at 12 noon.
