Ella Frances Tyree

TYREE - Ella Francis Tyree, eldest daughter of Bishop William J. Marshall Sr. and Mattie Lou Woodard, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on January 26, 2026. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Ella was the eldest daughter of six children. She later married Norman Tyree, and from that union two children were born, Kathleen and Lewis. Ella was a devoted grandmother to Nicole, Nigel, and Kyle, and a proud great-grandmother to Kaylee, Ayden, Ethan, Nate, and Raine. Ella retired from Cigna in 1987. In 1990, she followed her passion for caring for children by opening her own daycare, where she lovingly served many families throughout the Philadelphia area. A woman of deep faith, Ella was actively involved at Bible Way Baptist Church of Philadelphia, PA, where she faithfully served in the Sanctuary Choir, Seasoned Saints, Condolence Ministry, and other church auxiliaries. After relocating to Lawrenceville Georgia, she joined Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where she formed many meaningful friendships and continued her walk of service. She was preceded in death by her parents; Bishop William J. Marshall Sr. and Mattie Lou Woodard and her siblings John Marshall, Walter Marshall, and Louise Headley; and her beloved son, Lewis. Ella is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Tillman; her grandchildren Nicole Logan, Nigel Tillman, Kyle Tyree and great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Ayse Tillman her sister, Odessa Smith; her brother, William Marshall Jr.; and sister in-law Margaret Marshall along with a host of nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. A Lie in State will begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday February 14, 2026, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Lawrenceville, GA, with Funeral Service to follow at 11:00 AM.
